Mirror, Mirror on the wall….tell me who’s REALLY there?

I am a huge fan of the Grimm’s Fairy Tales. I own the complete collection in both hard cover and paperback and I read them often. In every variation of the story Snow White, there is the scene between the Queen and the Magic Mirror. In the Disney version, the Queen stands in front of the mirror looking at herself while summoning the power of the mirror:

Queen: Slave in the magic mirror, come from the farthest space, through wind and darkness I summon thee. Speak! Let me see thy face.

Magic Mirror: What wouldst thou know, my Queen?

Queen: Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?

I have had my very own Magic Mirror scenes throughout my life, unfortunately they didn’t just happen and move forward to the next scene. Some dragged on for years. There were times that I would look into my proverbial mirror and only see the reflection of others opinions and perceptions of me echoed back at me, the negative images being the strongest and most clearly visible.

Do you find yourself doing this, too? I have three simple points of advice for you today:

~ As you look into your mirror (self-reflect), you may not like everything that is being reflected back at you. Be forgiving and kind to yourself no matter what you see.

~ As you look into your mirror (self-reflect), don't judge where you are as good or bad, right or wrong. It is just where you are right now and that's okay.

~You are beautiful and powerful, even as you stand in what might look and feel like chaos. You have the power to grow through it.

I needed this advice all those years ago and I hope sharing it with you right now will ease your mind on a rough day.

Unlike the Queen in the fairy tale, I have faith that if I continue to summon the power of the mirror I will love what I see and be rewarded with everything I need to move toward my authentic life and you can, too.
